Managerial Challenges and Higher Education / UAE - Personal Statement
EssayChat / Feb 9, 2017
Presently, I work within the managerial spectrum of the real estate sector in Dubai. Like many real estate markets throughout the world, there are currently a great deal of challenges and projected challenges facing the UAE. According to Alan Robertson, the CEO of Jones LaSalle MENA, "2011 was a difficult year for real estate investors with most sectors of the market moving in favor of the tenants." Beyond this trend that is predicted to continue through the duration of 2012, the entire real estate market is projected to be negatively impacted by regional and local events including the Arab Spring and financial trouble facing the European Union (Staff 1). As a person working within this industry, there are matters that are inside and outside of one's control. While obviously a higher education cannot give me the tools to stop or alter major economic trends, it can put me in a position to make more efficacious decisions in my respective business field.
On the most basic of levels, with a specialized degree from IE, I will be able to shift into upper level management tiers that are currently out of reach with my experience and previous educational achievements. As with all free market businesses, there are ebbs and flows that make investment diversification necessary for vitality. With my current employer, for example, they have other business holdings in hotels, automobiles, insurance and engineering. As I shift into upper level management with a higher education degree, I will be able to learn more about these other investments and have a more influential role in how resources are allocated throughout the organization. Rather than simply being a real estate expert, I will have a broader field of understanding that will come from being part of the organization's upper echelon in a capacity that is not available to me at the present time. This will help me both if I stay with my present organization or if I decide to venture off into other areas of international business.
Beyond my own personal development, higher education will enable me to be a more efficacious part of Dubai's business community. By having well educated, reasoned and influential people participating in international business, the vitality of the entire market increases. In today's world, business is connected more than it ever has been. With telecommunications and other innovations, the world is literally a smaller place and economic boundaries for globalization are becoming more important than political boundaries in many situations. As global business managers, making informed, strategic, ethical and responsible decisions is in the best interest of the world. From sustainable civilizations to cross political interactions, the business leaders of today and tomorrow have to be cognizant of many variables and how those variables interact. While workplace experience is part of this equation, higher education is the other portion.
I hope to play a strong leadership role in my respective sector that is both financially lucrative and beneficial to the well being of the entire global market. At the present time, I have learned much, however, I am not equipped to properly reach this goal. Both the on the practical and theoretical level I have not reached my peak efficacy as a player in international business. With a degree from IE, however, I will have access to organizational levels that I currently cannot reach with my current resume. In addition, on a theoretical level, the education that I obtain will help me to make the best decisions that are aware of the connectivity to business practices and global market/environmental vitality. Having done my research into various higher educational programs, I truly feel that the IE curriculum and platform is best for helping me unlock my full potential.
