Confusion about Academic Degree and Student Success
EssayChat / Jan 11, 2024
I do not believe an academic degree is the key to success and I am not in opposition to any academic degrees. I have a degree myself, and I would recommend a college or a university for several people. However, there are some people better off not having an academic degree because it might be aligning with their career aspirations or skills. Success does not rely on an academic qualification paper, and it should not.
Success is defined as the actions a person takes in achieving his or her dreams and the goals in life. Therefore, if it means going to college or university to obtain a traditional 4-year degree, then it is awesome. Moreover, if it means going on the job training or studying during the night to attain a license or certification, then that is great too. Today, there are numerous importance's placed achieving on a college degree, but that should not be the right choice for everybody, and it should not be. A person should choose, therefore, a career path that makes you happy, put more effort, continue learning, and provide value to what you do, and success will follow.
In our history, several people have succeeded far beyond general standards without necessarily achieving an academic degree. This means that having an academic degree do not indicate that a person is incompetent, not ambitious, or unintelligent. For instance, Walt Disney is one example of those people who did not have to attain an academic degree to be successful. All he had to do is work on his ambition and gain the motivation to continue, and after all, it paid off. Therefore, I believe others can do the same. In addition, there are several other alternatives for professional academic degree; some of them include the military, AmeriCorps certification, being an entrepreneur, and cosmetology school.
From when a person is young, the society makes it clear that academic degree is the only way a person can be successful in life. Moreover, several other educators also do not tell students that there are other different opportunities and possibilities that a person can be successful not necessarily by gaining a degree. A degree does not guarantee a job and sometimes when a person does; they get a job that does not revolve around the scope of the degree. In conclusion, success is not based on an academic degree, but on a person's opinion on what success is to him or her. Thus, an academic is just a path to success but there are other alternative routes to a successful life.
As already mentioned, an academic degree is important, but without morals it is hard to hope that a person can be successful in life. A person immoral deeds when they surface, they taint the reputation of a highly academic qualified person. Some of this people end up not being successful in life since they lack morals. For instance, there are prominent people such as Tey Tsum Hang, a professor in National University in Singapore who was involved in a sex-for-grades scandal. Even though he had a good education, his lack of morals tainted his name and destroyed his name. This is a good illustration showing that a person may have all the education needed, but still not be successful.
Conclusively, even though a degree is necessarily essential, financially speaking, a degree is important for a successful life. For several stable and financially rewarding jobs, an academic degree is termed necessary. This is because for several jobs they will need a continued education even after a degree; this is to keep up with the changes in the industry. With the development of technology today and the rate to which the world is developing, I think it is necessary to gain an academic degree on the specific field you have chosen. Therefore, it gives a person a financial security even though there are other alternatives to being successful.
